Email Review print reviewFor anyone that’s seen the latest episode “Things Change” you might be like me and feel totally cheated out of a proper series finale. I mean you go from episodes like “Titans Together” where it was literally balls to the wall non-stop action....to this.
So I just got finished watching the supposed series finale of Teen Titans entitled “Things Change”, and all I can say is...THAT’S IT??
I’ve been a pretty loyal fan of the show since it first started a few years back, and I’ll admit that some episodes have been better than others, but as a whole I have enjoyed the show (I still say the show’s theme is the catchiest theme I’ve ever heard). With the recent rumors swirling the internet that the show had been cancelled, the only question left was “when is it being cancelled?”. Cartoon Network made the announcement that the show would NOT be renewed, but they failed to specify which episode would signify the series end.

Now don’t get me wrong, the episode itself wasn’t terrible, but as a series finale it sucked hard. For those of you that haven’t seen the episode let me do a little recap of the plot to bring you up to speed....
Fresh off their victory over the Brotherhood of Evil, the Titans return home to discover things are not the same as they left them. Their favorite video store has been demolished to make way for a new office building, their favorite candy shop is now just an abandoned building, and the people in town are all acting differently. While they walk around to check out more of these “changes” to their home, the Titans are attacked by a white “creature” that can seemingly take on the genetic qualities of anything it touches (steel, wood, concrete, water...etc). During the fight Beast Boy notices a familiar looking girl standing in the crowd....Terra.
The episode itself just leaves too many unanswered questions for a finale. If you’re anything like me, you HATE when they just end a show with some dumb ass episode that wasn’t meant to be the SERIES FINALE. It’s like, you’ve decided to cancel one of your most popular shows....ok, sounds ridiculous but that’s why they pay those “decision makers” so much money right? but now instead of giving the show a proper send off in the form of a BALLS TO THE WALL NON-STOP ACTION episode like they did with “Titans Together” they leave us with a ton of questions and a BS finale that did absolutely nothing to bring closure to the show. As a SEASON FINALE I could’ve dealt with it because all of the questions that were left unanswered could’ve been addressed next season, but apparently that’s not going to happen.
Personally I just felt cheated. The Titans spend the entire episode fighting this creature only to have no explanation of who or what it is, and why it keeps attacking randomly. While the Titans are off kicking ass, Beast Boy is busy courting this girl that he thinks is Terra. He tries to get her to remember he past with the Titans but she continues to tell him “you’ve got the wrong girl”. Once again...what the hell? I mean could they have at least told us what that creature is or who sent it? added to the mess is the appearance of Slade (or at least a Slade look-a-like) to once again cofirm BB’s suspicion that the girl he is after is infact Terra, but once again NOTHING is explained. Slade shows up, has a fight with BB, gets his ass kicked and that’s it....I mean COME ON!
Overall the episode was good, but as a SERIES FINALE it left me feeling completely cheated. I’ve been a loyal fan of the show for years, and I honestly expected more. There are still rumors that this WAS NOT the last episode, but I guess only time will tell for sure.
Oh well, there’s always the straight-to-DVD movie coming out later in the year.
