To be honest, I am probably the only person on the face of this planet who hasn’t played K.O.T.O.R. I am an admitted Star Wars buff and role playing aficionado and I haven’t even lifted a finger to buy the game. I should be ashamed.

Anyways, I am trying to redeem myself and saw Knights of the Old Republic on the comic book rack and I had to pick it up.

The first time I read it through, I was mystified. Jedi Knights aren’t bumbling idiots. They are the protectors of everything good in the galaxy. Yet Wayne (oops, I meant Zayne), the main character is an utterly clueless and a class “A” klutz. If I wanted goofy, I could pop in Spaceballs.

Anyways, that was my first reaction reading through the comic. Lets say I was “less than thrilled”. Then I picked it up again and really started to go over it with a fine-toothed comb. I started to notice all the subtle character play between the different characters. The criminal that Zayne is going after is really quite funny and seems to hold the conversation. The Jedi Knights are quite mysterious (which is what I expect from the Jedi Order).  I personally feel that there wasn’t enough space to flesh out the plethora of characters that were introduced and the relationships were a little “forced” (no pun intended). They coulda spent 1 or 2 less pages playing up the smuggler and used that valuable real estate to deepen Zayne’s relationships with the other Padawan’s.

The artwork is top notch. For once, the art on the cover doesn’t do the inside artwork justice. There is no over-emphasis of the caricature’s that seem to be rife in comics nowaday’s. Each person is quite proportional to the other (no big boobies here). The art detail is stellar and the coloring really pops off the page.

So after the final analysis, I think it is definitely worth the money for this storyline and am eagerly anticipating the sequel. I give it 1 and 3/4 thumbs up :p Check out the Preview from Dark Horse to see the first 4 pages.

I agree on the contrast between the cover art and the interior.  Open it up and it looks so much better!  I’m not a huge Starwars comic fan but I may have to check it out now.

If it’s anything like the game I’m already not interested. I love Star Wars, but those games wasted hours of my life! I’ll check out the books though.
