Get your first look at the Decepticon’s leader in his early design stages for the upcoming film.

Seibertron.com has images of an early design concept from Hasbro of what Megatron COULD look like in the feature film. It should be noted that Hasbro COO Brian Goldner issued a recent statement saying that images such as these "are VERY early forms of toys and will be revised and changed, and will gain tremendous detail as they move toward finished products”.

While these ARE NOT the final designs for the robots in the film, they do offer an interesting glimpse into the direction they could be taking them.

Transformers: The Movie opens in theaters on July 4th, 2007.

Ok I think I see where they’re taking this. So we all know that on Cybertron the Transformers were obviously different vehicles than they are on Earth. So while on Cybertron not only do they transform into different vehicles, but their normal appearance is much more “organic” since their alien technology could simply allow them to “morph” rather than transform.

So they come to Earth and take on the guise of our vehicles, and thus gain a much more “robotic” look while in their normal mode.

At least I think that’s where they’re headed with this.

It could be interesting.  I don’t particularly care for this form of Megatron because I see no similarities to the G1 Megatron-hopefully they will change his face up or something.  I have seen some images of the new Optimus Prime.  There are just enough similarities to satisfy and new touches to make him totally original.  I was very impressed with his design if it is the final design.

Megatron here looks like total crap IMHO

I think he looks cool, I just wish he had a big honkin’ gun on his arm, a la the classic cartoon.

Yah. Closer to the classic might get my stamp of approval. I’m not expecting them to go the whole way but a remnant would be nicer :(
