Comingsoon.net reports that with the success of SAW III over the weekend ($34.3 million) Lionsgate is giving the greenlight to begin work on a fourth installment for a Halloween 2007 release.
Since the low-budget SAW debuted with $18.3 million over the same weekend two years ago, Lionsgate has turned the franchise into an annual ritual with quickly produced sequels each Halloween.
The movies follow the diabolical schemes of psycho killer Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), who stages elaborate, bloody games to test the moral fiber of his victims. Lionsgate plans to have SAW IV in theaters over Halloween weekend next year.

Geeze, I just posted the news about how much SAW III brought in this weekend, and now the announcement that SAW IV is moving forward has already been made. I guess it’s safe to say that Lionsgate realizes they have a franchise on their hands, and they have NO intention of letting it go anytime soon.
Oh well, as long as they keep them interesting I guess it’s all good.
These movies seem to be a gold mine for them. They make them for around 10 to 12 million and get all that back and more on the first weekend. Wasn’t Tobin Bell recognized for all his roles in horror movies at the “Scream Awards”?
I guess I should get around to seeing Saw II
I was in LA a year back and my brother came to visit me from camp pendleton. He and another marine friend of his went with me to see SAW II and all three of us has quezy stomachs when we left.
The more of these movies they make, it is more likely others will also end up with queasy stomachs.
Except for the studio executives that have a piece of this gory pie.
