Legendary, who was a major investor in this summer’s Superman Returns has said they fully intend to back the sequel currently slated for a 2009 release according to Superherohype!.
If Legendary is unnerved, it isn’t showing. Like Warners, Legendary insists it will turn a profit on “Superman Returns,” and has given all indications that it’s on deck to co-finance a sequel.
Like Legendary, all the funds argue that they won’t be made, or broken, by just one pic. By investing in a slate of pics over the course of several years, they’re virtually guaranteed a return of 10%.

I am not sure what to think of this deal. It sounds good to be involved with someone like Legendary pictures but when they invest 500 million dollars it makes me wonder if they will be too committed to the bottom line even if this is only part of a 25 picture agreement. At least this group has some well known “movie” people behind it.
It would be great if the “bottom line” wasn’t part of the movie equation and we could just see “Superman” like in the comics but that isn’t realistic in these days and times.
