Good Criticisms.
We don’t profess to be PRIDE experts on this show and in fact this was our first foray into pimping PRIDE…
We were given the opportunity to interview 2 pride fighters and decided to give PRIDE some air time. Another reason we touched it is that there are a lot of ex-UFC fighters on their payroll that we could try to relate to our audience.
The h vs. r and w vs. v thing is kinda nit-picky. If you talk to a spanish speaker instead of a portugese speaker, they would pronounce it like they see it. I speak fluent spanish. So you say lemon, I say limon.
Secondly, I giggled right after my co-host mis-pronounced Chris Lytle’s name but stuff happens when you’re producing a radio show and reading from show notes.
Thanks for listening and at least listen to the last 12 minutes of the show for the really good interviews if you don’t like our reparte.
P.S. - I know that Dan Henderson is a beast. That second fight with Nogueira was brutal. What did he escape from, like 5 or 6 submission attempts (felt like 100) before succumbing to the armbar? I’ll put that in my show notes if it will make you feel any better…
LoL. That was painful RoyalB. I couldn’t pronounce your site name to save my life…
But ya gotta give me props for trying. I think I fail at Japanese.
I promised you a text link in this weeks show notes and I put it in there posthumously for ya.
Funny story, and this is no lie.
I’ll be the first to admit that I wasn’t around when the UFC was in its infancy. I was actually out of country then.
Anyways, when I did start to get into MMA hardcore, I saw Royce Gracie’s name on paper and I immediately thought to myself, “So what’s his mother’s name… Rolls?”
Then to my chagrin, I found that it was pronounced Hoyce Gracie and that the guy could tie me in a knot just thinking about making fun of him and his mother.
In UFC 1 everybody pronounced his name “Royce” instead of “Hoyce”. I guess it’s just us stupid Americans imposing our Imperialist english phonics on the rest of the world
