Email Article Print ArticleI will be chronicling undiscovered comic book talent in my new “Komikazee Future Star” column. I will be picking artists and writers who I think have what it takes to make it in the comic industry. Take a look at our inaugural Future Star Carlito Raphael!
I was walking through artist alley at the Wizard World Texas convention in Dallas when some awesome sequentials caught my eye. I took a closer look and was really impressed. I started talking to the guy at the booth and he told me a young artist had dropped off the art earlier in the day. He was nice enough to give me the copy of the art and later that night I sent Carlito and e-mail.
I asked Carlito what he thought of Wizard World TX and this is what he told me. “The Texas Con was amazing. I have several people interested in giving me commissioned work. My biggest news is that I received a VERY positive response from the TOP COW booth. They were the only company there that was doing portfolio reviews. Matt Hawkins, the president of Top Cow, was really impressed, gave me a card, and told me to expect an evaluation script in the mail sometime soon. So that’s obviously great news. With any luck, you’ll see me working at TOP COW this Spring or something."
It seems like the guys at Top Cow have a good eye too. Let us know what you think of Carlito Rahael’s work and wish this young artist well. You can see all of Carlito Raphael’s work here! Check out the Gallery section for all his artwork.

You have to see these images full size to really appreciate them. Check out his link in and enjoy. Great job Carlito!
He has a nice gallery and it shows he isn’t afraid to draw women.
Good idea CurveZ. This could be a great way for comics guys to check out the newer guys in the business. Always nice to get a heads up on young talent.
