Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been trying to really hype the new series The Nine on ABC. This is a show I stumbled upon simply because the commercials caught my attention, and now I am totally hooked on it. Since the show started I’ve been trying to track down someone that could set up some interviews with the show’s cast so that we could draw more attention and help those who haven’t watched it gain a better understanding of what it’s all about.
Today I was fortunate enough to get my first interview with actress Jessica Collins who plays Lizzie Miller on the show. While most of you may not recognize Jessica, she is a very accomplished actress and all around delightful person. I got the chance to talk to her on the phone and ask her some questions regarding the show and her character in particular.
KK: What first attracted you to the role of Lizzie on The Nine?
JC: Well, I received the script and I was immediately attracted to how amazing the writing was. The diversity of the characters is incredible, and the whole concept is just amazing.
KK: What type of preparation did you do once you landed the role?
JC: You just think about certain things in your life that have affected you and you play off of it. Other than that I just took a real world approach to Lizzie and how I wanted to play her.
KK: Was Lizzie the original role you auditioned for?
JC: Yes, and fortunately I ended up landing the role.
KK: What do you think separates The Nine from other shows on TV today?
JC: It’s almost like we have 3 different shows in one. We’ve got action, we’ve got mystery, and we’ve got character development. The show is original because it’s got such a large cast yet it really takes the time to flesh each of these characters out so you get to know them.
KK: What kind of shows do you watch when you have the time?
JC: Actually I’m kind of a nerd so I usually end up watching the History channel or the Discovery channel. As far as other shows go I did really get hooked on Lost. I also like to cook so I watch the Food Network. Right now I’ve been so busy that I barely even know what a TV is these days.
KK: Aside from Lizzie, who is your favorite character in the show?
JC: It would definitely have to be Eagan Foote. He’s just such a likable, lovable character and John Billingsley plays him perfectly.
KK: In real life how does John differ from Eagan?
JC: Well John is not nerdy at all. He’s very kind, has a wonderful relationship with his wife. He’s just an all around great guy.
KK: As of today, how many episodes have you completed filming?
JC: We’ve finished 9 episodes.
KK: In the last episode we saw Nick (Tim Daly) confront Jeremy (Scott Wolf) about the suspicion that you were the one who attempted to kill Randall Reese . Jeremy then confessed that it was him that did it. Will Lizzie find out, and how will this affect their already strained relationship?
JC: Um, yes it will definitely impact their relationship in the same way it would any normal couple. The relationship between Lizzie and Jeremy is better explained as the show goes on, right now it’s sketchy but it does go into what happened between them.
KK: What’s it like working with such a large cast?
JC: We really are an ensemble cast. Honestly, it’s a dream job. I love going to work and being around all of these amazing actors. It’s like watching perfection in the making, I am really fortunate and I love being a part of this show.
KK: In your own words, what can fans of The Nine look forward to with the coming episodes?
JC: Well, you can definitely look forward to some interesting revelations about each of the characters, and you’ll find out more about what happened during the bank robbery.
KK: Thanks a lot Jessica, I’m a big fan of the show and I wish you luck.
JC: Thanks a lot, I’m glad you enjoy the show!
Since Jessica was kind enough to sit down with us for an interview (seriously, she even ignored my horrible phone connection) I fully expect all of you to tune in, or at least set your Tivo’s to record The Nine airing Wednesdays 10/9c on ABC, you won’t be disappointed.

darn. I’m an hour late :( I’ll have to set my Tivo next week.
I love this show. It is definately worth checking out.
Yeah, this is without a doubt one of the best new shows on TV right now. I am REALLY liking this show, and I hope it stays around for a nice lengthy run. The cast is amazing, and the writing is second to none.
