The quarter finals have passed and now it is time for the semi-finals. For those of you that don't know, the IFL pits teams of fighters against each other in a tournament type format that eventually crowns one team as the winner. One fighter from one team fights an opposing teams fighter of the same weight. If they win, they get a point for their team. The team with the most points wins. There are five bouts per contest and they all happen on the same night.

These teams have colors, uniforms, mascots, names, and even coaches and they are assigned to a city. There are twelve teams announce for the 2007 season.

The Semi-Finals have been announced and will be happening November 2nd, 2006 in Portland, Oregon. The matchup are as follows:

  • Bas Rutten's Anaconda's vs. Matt Lindland's Wolfpack
  • Pat Miletich's Silverbacks vs. Carlos Newton's Dragons

There will be two different matches (5 fights per match) that night and two superfights for a total of 12 fights on the card. The winners of these two matches will then advance to the finals to fight each other for the IFL Championship. The two superfights will feature:

  • Daniel Gracie vs. Allan Goes
  • Mark Kerr vs. Mike Whitehead

For more details see the IFL's site. The superfights don't look shabby and the teamplay should be excellent. I am sure they will be televising the matches separately on FSN so stay tuned for a schedule announcement for said fights to air on TV.
