Email Article Print ArticleActor who plays the “Joker” in the Dark Knight Returns has died at the age of 28.
NEW YORK (CNN)—Actor Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday of a possible drug overdose in a Lower Manhattan apartment, the New York Police Department said. The Academy Award nominated actor was 28.m"Pills were found in the vicinity of the bed,” police spokesman Paul Browne told CNN.
“This is being looked at as a possible overdose, but that is not confirmed yet.” The pills appeared to be over-the-counter sleeping medication, said police spokeswoman Barbara Chen. Ledger was unresponsive when he was found by a housekeeper who had gone to wake him for an appointment with a masseuse in the Soho apartment, Browne said. Ledger was declared dead at about 3:30 p.m., Browne said.
I know from reading the many boards out on the web, that principle shooting for Dark Knight Returns has been completed, but there are still fill in shots and possible retakes that were being looked at. I do not believe the film would be in trouble, but there are some out there that think the film maybe pushed back for a later release date. I am sad to hear this news, I actually like Ledger as an actor and know he will be deeply missed.

The first film I ever reviewed was Brokeback Mountain. Heh, strange beginnings. Ledger’s performance as Ennis was my pick for best of that 2005 year. I’ve seen some of the stuff he has done for The Dark Night Returns, and his Joker is damn frightening.
I think we can all mostly say that the first time Heath caught our eye was in 10 Things I Hate About You. Do you remember when his accent seemed stupid, and his hair atrocious, yet something jumped out about him in his presence on screen? I do. A sad day indeed. This was a actor I truly admired.
“There ‘s daggers in men’s smiles”. - Macbeth (Act II, Scene III).
Godspeed Heath Ledger
Bummer about Ledger . The review I read about his performance as “the Joker” was when you looked at him you could actually smell him . Ack !
Latest thing I read was that that good ol Fred Phelps was planning to disrupt Mr Ledgers funeral as Keith was an abomination to God for advocating the gay life style in the movie” Brokeback Mountain “. Never mind that the man was not gay.
Fred has publicly stated Keith Ledger is now rotting in Hell as he deserves.
If you’re not aware of Fred Phelps and his Westborough Baptist Church in Kansas and his harassment of funerals for American soldiers , then I dare you to google him and prepare for cold chills.. as the Joker , Penguin and Lex Luther have nothing on him..except Mr Phelps does not steal..or so I’m told .
It is always sad when a two year old loses her Dad when they were so close. There are so many pictures of them with her riding on his shoulders.
I too enjoyed most of his work and thought he would be around for a very long time since he was so talented and young.
“Death smiles at us all. All a man can do is smile back.”
It is just too sad.
I was never a big fan, but it is always sad to see someone go that young and with such a promising life. It’s a shame that this, instead of his work, will be his legacy.
Well it is good to see people responding again, and WELCOME BACK LUFGUY!!
For some reason when Ledger passed away I was surprisingly shocked. I usually do not take to much stock in an actors “fame” if you will, but Ledger and I are very close in age and it was a very surreal moment for me to equate my death with someone I have never meet but have admired on screen.
I hope his image is not tarnished too much by the news. His daughter will have to grow up without her father which is enough without the media throwing out negative allegations about his life and death.

Nobody seems to remember Mr. Ledger’s wonderful portrayal of the wannabe knight in “A Knights Tale” . I wished for a sequel..alas .
What a great story that was of a young man posing as a knight, the blind father in the stands ..er..bleachers, the good king and the WAYFAR outstanding soundtrack of truly decent Rock ‘n Roll. Or as some of you younger readers may describe it , as “oldies”.( It is referred to as “ Classic Rock “ and I remind you to take note of this as it may appear on a pop quiz .)(pun not intended)
Yes , A Knight’s Tale, a Wonderful Movie and a promising actor..sad .
Thanks SK, nice to know I wasn’t completely forgotten.
I may show up again from time to time.
Old Otto, I agree with you. I liked that movie too his performance grew with him as his character grew in the movie. Ledger played the humor, the battles and romantic scenes equally well. Loved the rock tunes set to the old times. Hearing “We Will Rock You” gave the song a whole different perspective.
I will even confess to watching “10 Things”. When he was running from the security guards in the stadium while singing “I Love You Baby” was hilarious.
For us now, I am thinking it will be difficult to watch his “Joker” portrayal. At the very least, it won’t be the same now that we know he has gone on.
Heath Leager was just getting into his prime as an actor I think, I mean even Matt Damon had to do the “Talented Mr. Ripply” before becoming Jason Borne, but the thing I got a problem about is the fact that he is dead now however the tabloids are having a field day dragging his name threw the mud still, I can honestly say i never had a problem with a single movie i saw him make and he always seemed a cool guy to me. It is a sad loss that we will no longer see him in movies
Pass it
hi.
You’re really thankful for this post.
Thanks for this information.
Bye.
Heath Ledger was one of the best actors in the movie industry. And I’m sure a lot of us will be missing him.
