The Spirit of Vengeance topples Jim Carrey and the cast of Reno 911 to claim the #1 spot for a second week.

According to Variety Sony Pictures Ghost Rider has earned an estimated $118 million in it’s first two weeks of release.

Ghost Rider made the biggest splash with launches in France, with $3 million at 426 through local distributor SND, and in Germany, with a first-place $2.2 million at 363. The second weekend saw declines of 51% in Spain to $1.5 million at 417—still enough for first—along with 38% in Mexico to $1.3 million at 403 and 46% in Australia to $1 million at 208.

The film also opened in first place in India with $820,000 at 250 for the 12th biggest launch in that market for a Hollywood movie. The Nicolas Cage starrer has lived up to expectations internationally, earning $39.4 million overseas and $118 million worldwide with openings coming next weekend in Japan and the U.K.

For the second week in a row, it is the #1 movie. I just love it when the critics, who don’t take comic movies seriously, get drowned out by the sound of the cash registers at the movie theaters. :-)

This is pretty impressive for a character that has really faded to the background since its 80’s/early 90’s heyday. I love to play as Ghost Rider in Ultimate Alliance. What is this character’s role in the current Marvel comics universe?

I am not really the guy to answer your question Mulder_Prime but I did see this and wondered if you would be interested in it until a real gamer came along with an answer.

What Makes Ghost Rider a Valuable Asset

The Spirit of Vengeance doesn’t get to ride his bike through the levels of Ultimate Alliance, but he does still have a flaming head, so that’s something. With chain in hand and fire attacks to boot, Ghost Rider is a good mid-range attacker. He’s not ideal for long-ranged support, but he is a great option if you want someone who can get up close or can strike from just out of melee range. GR’s chain is excellent for grappling enemies and tossing them about. This can be very useful for clearing out crowded areas.

Why Choose to Play as Ghost Rider

Most Ultimate Alliance characters are stronger at either short or long range. GR is one of the few that is best as a mid-range attacker. That’s more valuable than you may realize. But the real reason to play as Ghost Rider is the chain. Tossing enemies with the magical chain or cracking heads is one of Ultimate Alliance’s most enjoyable features. This is your last chance to enjoy GR pre-Nicolas Cage. Embrace it!

It’s good to actually see a comic that doesn’t really have a big name(like batman, superman, spiderman, etc) do this well in the theaters 2 weeks in a row. Honestly I was pretty impressed with the movie.
