Email Article Print ArticleMMA has gone mainstream and the media is just now waking up to the craze. They don’t quite understand so they use known sports organizations (boxing and professional wrestling) to try and get their brains around this wildly popular sport of mixed martial arts.
The Associated Press is no different. They recently ran an article detailing the PPV revenue streams of boxing, WWE, and MMA. It’s a quick and interesting read but the gist of it is that the UFC made over 200+ million last year in PPV buys, WWE made around 200 million, and HBO only made 177 million. WWE tries to explain it off, “Rochester said it’s not ready to concede the PPV title yet. While UFC had one good year, he said, WWE has generated more than $2 billion in total PPV buys over a 22-year stretch.” Read the rest of the article here.

People are starting to tire of boxing and even wrestling and turn to the world of MMA. I was reading an article the other day that talked about how Shane McMahon (son of Vince) is all for starting up an MMA promotion while Vince thinks that the US is oversaturated with MMA right now and wants to focus on building up his struggling WWE.
Back in the 90’s NO ONE could touch WWE (then WWF) in terms of revenue. Now the WWE has trouble selling out arenas....it’s sad.
I see articles all the time now about MMA in online newspapers. It is mainstream but many don’t seem to want to acknowledge it. This week, Fox and Friends had a segment with Dana Cook and one of his fighters, who put on a demo, with Brian Kilmeade. Kilmeade actually went to the mat with the fighter and got tossed around like he was a boy trying to fight with a man. Too funny! After about a minute, Kilmeade’s clothes were all messed up and he was looking ragged while the fighter, who had done all the work, wasn’t even breathing heavy. Everyone seemed to be laughing and enjoying the show.
Wish I had the video of that one Lufguy.
