American Idol runner-up as Wonder Woman?

Katharine McPhee, who came in second place during this year’s American Idol competition may be the leading candidate to don the tiara for the big budget film.

According to Cinescape.com this year’s American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee (pictured left) might be trading in her microphone for a magic lasso, as she is now the rumored front-runner to play the Amazon Princess Wonder Woman in the big screen adaption.

The California native has overcome bronchitis, laryngitis and a fractured foot in recent weeks to perform on the American Idols Live Tour, and it seems her real-life heroics have impressed Wonder Woman Director/Writer Joss Whedon.

Currently McPhee is among those hoping to land the coveted lead role. Other names that have been thrown around include Priyanka Chopra (top picture) and Morena Baccarin (bottom picture).

Here’s my take on it. If they’re going for a more “wholesome” look for WW, then McPhee definitely has that look down. If they’re looking for a more “amazonian” look then I would have to give it to Priyanka Chopra.

I think Katharine McPhee is CUTE, and I sure as hell wouldn’t mind seeing her all decked out in the WW outfit...actually I wouldn’t mind seeing any of these actresses in the costume.

Ah yes, casting for WW should prove to be interesting.

I know it is a movie based on a comic character but the woman who gets the role is going to have to have some acting chops, right? I don’t think she will just be able to stand around and look good. If we want to go to left field for an actress, I would go with my favorite vamp, Jill Wagner. Heck, it would be a natural with Mercury as a tie in.

Ah yes, Jill Wagner…

I’m saying Katharine McPhee definitely is a beautiful girl, but she’d have to be able to act as well. I don’t really know either of these other girls mentioned, but apparently they have experience.

I always liken it to Brandon Routh...when he was cast everyone (including myself) were up in arms. Now, after the release of the film I am convinced there is no one else that could’ve pulled it off.

Time will tell.

I enjoyed Morena Baccarin in Joss’s “Firefly” on the Sci-Fi channel recently and the movie “Serenity”.

brandon routh had some acting credits, though, so it wasn’t too much of a stretch to see him carrying a film. nanny mcphee hasn’t even carried an album yet, so she’d be a total unknown, and it’s hard to risk 100 million on an unknown.

plus, have you SEEN ms. chopra?

KATHARINE McPHEE! Thats how I feel about that. Shes ok for a singer but you put her in and that really brings up the cheesy factor. A reality show singer, no way!

As for the other two I dont know who they are, the second one has the look, but can she act? I’m hoping for an unknown, worked for Superman and Wolverine.

I just hope the movie doesn’t suck. Remember Catwoman! You can get one of the best actresses out there and still end up with the worst movie ever made!

I wouldn’t put much into this story of McPhee as WW… Wheadon turned in his first draft to the studio just a couple of weeks ago… and casting is a long way away… Besides, Wheadon no doubt will pick HIS own Wonder Woman.

This is one of those wild rumors that could have started from the McPhee camp to get a little buzz going…
