Returning Player; New to the Dallas Scene

Agreed - and I don’t think any store is big enough to corner the market on active players in the area…

just my humble opinion...

please explain

Cornering the market suggests a monopoly, as in, yours is the only FNM, the only Sealed events, the only singles, and the only packs in town, and all active players come to visit/play because of that fact.  For that to happen, I would think you’d have to have franchises all over the DFW Metroplex because some players will just go to the store that’s closest to them for convenience, regardless of other factors.

It was not a personal comment against you or Madness, my apologies if it came off that way - just an off-handed comment that I don’t think there will be a monopoly anytime soon on Magic players.  :)

Well, to give my unbiased opinion, I do actually like Madness the best. Like Goblin boy said, it does have a good mix of players. I go to Comic Asylum and Comic Book Craze occasionally, and I think Madness has better prices on singles (though currently the smallest selection, but I *hope* soon to be probably much bigger if the put out what was all up in McKinney in plano) They also run FNM much faster than Asylum, which I like. Like Blake said, convience is a big factor. About the only thing I can gripe about at Madness is no drinks/food policy, which before with FNM in a crowded space is understandable, but during non-tourneys and now after expansion will be kinda irritating. Plus, some other owner (years ago in another state) told me his on the side pop and candy sales was some of his biggest income (think of like 20 of the 34 people each buying a coke or snack at FNM - that should help margins). Of course, someone spilling a coke over a few people’s decks would cause a big s***storm.

I hope it’s true that every snowflake is unique, because I never want to see one like this again.

From what i heard. take what was on display in mckinney and multiply it by the thousands… They spent the past 6ish months sorting about a million cards that from what I heard will be available in april as singles, but thats just what I heard, and official backup on this?

Borrow money from pessimists - they don’t expect it back

The final plan for the way the store will be layed out looks great, can’t wait for it to be finished.  It should provide a much more enjoyable playing area and hopefully I’ll lose my fear of getting stuck in the door with two other FNM players while we try to scan the pairings for the round.  I can’t say I’ve played many other places, since Madness is like two blocks from my home, but it keeps me coming back and I certainly don’t see a reason to drive further unless it is for something special like the pre-release.

I can not wait for it to be finished either!

Hmm… what no food/drink rule? I don’t remember any… ;)

I’ve been to about 30 different stores all around Texas, including parts of Waco, Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston, College Station, and Conroe… and I can say that MGC Plano is byfar the best store I’ve been to.  I haven’t seen any of the new improvements yet, but seeing as the store is expanding, there’s no reason not to play there if you live in the vacinity(IMO).  It has the best prices(packs, boxes, fat packs, etc.), the best people(well, I won’t speak for the thieves we’ve had in the past few months), and soon-to-have the most comfortable playing space.  It’s also one of the only stores I’ve been to that actually gives you an entry pack for playing in FNMs, rather than just attributing your entry fee to prize packs.

There are(were) discounted drafts, sealed FNMs, release events for each new MTG Set/Expansion, etc, all in the same store.  The only thing I haven’t seen happen at madness are sanctioned extended/legacy/vintage events, and I’m sure those might(hell, I dunno if it’s possible, but it’d be cool if they were brought back) be available once the store is finished with all the changes.

I hope to be back soon to see the new look and/or soak some of my recent income into the store’s rebuilding process… :)
