Madness Plano Gaming Events schedule drastically reduced

Now your Fridays will be open for dates....  With girls.... Or whatever.  Just kidding.  I will be holding mega Magic events for a $20 buy in paid two days in advance, minimum of 20 players, winner gets $150 second place get’s $50.  Still just kidding.

Just glad i’ve sold my collection.

Yes, there might have been “good times” for some, but i found many of the players to be simply rude and i also find the notion of some saying that they played to game to have fun as ludicrous. The word that comes to mind is cutthroat. Is that one word or two? hyphenated? Oh wellz.

Thanks,

Aaron

Well, I honestly did play the game for fun…

I’m not a spike… not one bit… ask anybody there…

If I am winning a game or losing it… I’m having fun so long as I can cast a spell… do some stupid combo… counter-act a tier 1 deck with a ludicours play like maindecking Woebringer Demon… yeah… things like that…

I played the game to have fun… now I’m going to have to find something else to relive the stress of 60 hours a week at work then another 100 hours a week+ caring for a family (not that it’s a bad thing… but tiz very stressful)

I do agree, many of the players come across as jerks… but they’re also the Spikes who go around expecting to win every game because they have an all-foil deck that won worlds or whatever… most of the players are nice to have a conversation with… but getting a sudden influx of trade-sharks destroyed the atmosphere for me…

Oh well, such as life…

I like big creatures and I cannot lie
You other players can’t deny
That when a beast walks in with an itty bitty cost
And your blockers are all lost
You get removal!

There’s something distinctly homoerotic about this…

I am only referring to those who “expect” to win because they have a good deck, not because they are good players… (the ones I’m referring to make a-million-and-one play mistakes and still whine about losing when/if they do because they have the world champion deck or whatever)

I’m not saying I don’t make play errors… everybody does… but it’s the people who don’t see that THATS what cost them the game, not the opps deck being better…

See this as you want to see it, if you think I’m talking about you, I may be… or I may not be…

Well now, this is a sad turn of events.  I’m sorry your Magic experience was not as good as it should have been, Al.  Thanks for making us aware of a possible problem which probably applies to some degree to all of us.  Had you perhaps considered, though, that there’s more to Magic than the competitive environment?  Magic is a very different game when played in a relaxed, casual venue.  Some players (myself absolutely included) take their tournaments fairly seriously but really are just out to have a good time when there’s nothing else at stake.  I find everyone is very pleasant 90% of the time, and I’m probably retarded at least 10% of the time, myself.  To anyone else reading this, don’t let the behavior of others ruin anything that you love--work at getting into a casual playgroup and you’ll be improving your experience while making friends in the process.  Tournaments can be great fun, but as in any game where there’s a level of competitiveness you’re going to encounter ego and you’re going to encounter attitude.  If you quit because of it you’re just showing other people that you care more about their attitude than you do about your own hobbies.  (If you decide to get back into Magic casually I can donate commons and some uncommons your way.)

I think a big issue with his statement is that due to human instinct, people (him, in this case) tend to remember their bad experiences much more easily than the good… because they go against what you want…

For instance, when I got mugged one night walking from a friends house (true story) I still remember that night even nowdays… but when I SERIOUSLY sit down and think about it… I made that walk OVER 2,000 times before and nothing had EVER happened…

but when I think about walking home from their house, I think about the time something bad happened… not all the other times when nothing bad happened…

get my point?

All it takes is ONE player in a foul mood to ruin an entire experience for somebody.

I personally like the competitive environment more than just a casual get together, I like to feel like I have accomplished something, even if it is getting my ass handed to me over and over again.

thats just my 2 cents

Mettler, thanks for the parting gifts last week.  We’ll all miss Madness as we head a little further South in the future.  Best of luck to you, Rob, Big Schoppe, and anyone else that I may have forgotten.
