seems to me that it’s pretty one-sided when it comes to the play aspect as well.

$3.99 for a pack is ABSURD from a company that runs 7 pro tours and tons of other tourneys where they give a select few hundreds of thousands of dollars but screws the majority with these absurd prices. I don’t know what they’re claiming they’re coming in par with other CCGs… new CCgs seem to have packs that are like $1-2… hmm I’m not sure here correct me if I"m wrong. But forcing 4 sets/year and $4 a pack now… maybe when they stop printing cards that are useless in ANY format like Wit’s End and Vassal’s Duty.
Though forget the MSRP, how much is the wholesale cost going up? That’s the real question.
I hope it’s true that every snowflake is unique, because I never want to see one like this again.
wholesale is going up proportionately, with some of the minis going up a bit more than that

Hmm I’ll change my reaction somewhat by realizing it’s an 8% increase, and mentioning I thought $3.69 for a pack is too much.
I hope it’s true that every snowflake is unique, because I never want to see one like this again.
And i’ll go ahead and say that even $2.99 or $3.29 is too much for a pack of cards(but that’s because I see the game as a source of LEISURE, not like smoking crack or shooting up heroine… which I don’t condone anyway, but you get the idea), which only around 3-4 will be useful… Meaning that I don’t want to spend $1 on every card I buy(especially when it might be 2 commons, 1 uncommon and 1 $.25 rare). Now, it seems that WotC is going in the right direction with this(printing a higher % of high-powered/playable cards), but it better not stop with TS… My $4.33 pack better contain a Cursed Scroll or a Morphling(in terms of power level, obv) soon enough, or I will not be buying them…

Wow… well.. .I will be cancelling my Magic card orders… Xp
After driving for a year to McKinney from Dallas, then for another long stint of time to Plano to play (after all, I have a hard time making it to PLANO even for FNM, then the drive home...) Magic, I will have nowhere else to play.
The prices going up is not a big deal to me, as I don’t buy packs much anymore but that’ll raise the price of crap rares that some other stores sell them at.
Yech… this week has gotten progressively worse starting Sunday… and I still have 4 more days to go to see what BS lies ahead of me now…
Well, I guess I will probably be selling off most of my Magic stuff with nowhere to play anymore.
It was nice playing with you guys; I’ll try to see if I can get off work for a farewell game Friday but no promises.
Thanks for all your hospitality Chris and Madness team.

i agree with KAmbler’s point, if youve been wrestling with this for months, why havent you told any of us players? I really wish i could ‘play the game, because i love the game.’ I was looking forward to playing Time Sprial at madness. Playing with those coldsnap cards i bought. but nooooooo.
im quite furious. sure, business is business, but why not cap off FNM to, say, 16 players a week. that way its 4 rounds, and not cramped?
Love,

erm Plano is closer to Dallas than McKinney, and even closer to Richardson… I assume you live north not south?

How exactly do you fit 16 people in the store as it is now? They can’t do it in the hallway because of the complaints, and the store is packed full.
Madness is a “Games and Comics” store, it’s not just Magic. It is a business and it is someones’, several people’s livelihoods we’re talking about. This is not a random decision to spite you. They are not doing this to you, it just happens to affect you and your life.
stop being self-centered and have a little respect for a guy who had to make a tough decision and did what was best in the long run.
You can’t play Magic at Madness anymore, but hey, now you get to make the decisions. Find a new place to play, change your focus to just the larger tournaments, quit magic altogether, it’s all up to you. There are other shops in the area, decent shops. If you’re jonesing for an FNM try out some new places. I’ve played at Shotokon, Madness in Denton, CBC, that place in Oklahoma, that place in Waco, they’re all decent.
you can’t please everyone, it just happens that Magic players are the displeased group in this situation.

too bad there will be no 1.5 tourney. i guess ill have to play at comic book craze or aslyum for that. with that being said. i didnt play at too many tourneys since i usually have church on friday’s. after church i would go and play casually, but i did get to play here and there.
what surprised me about madness was the explosive growth of the player pool there.
i am not totally shocked that yall arent running magic anymore since the crowd is becoming a crowd. it gets pretty hard to manage that many players and have hours that run into 2 or 3 in the morning. also i am assuming that 1am isnt the best money hours for your store.
hopefully, yall will continue to have singles or maybe single firesales. i would love to buy cards in bulk if possible or just buy out collections. hey but you never know. i am sure all of us have personally quit magic here and there, but it is sorta addictive and you know you will eventually come back.
when i first played magic back in 1993 and in houston, i knew the game was special because i was personally willing to drive 30 miles one way just to sit outside of the store just to play. this was at the now defunct GameMasters in houston, and for all of you who dont know about the place. this store originally bought out 50% of the alpha and beta shippments and 15% of the legends (they became a distributor at the time). eventually time caught up and they expanded beyond belief, until homelands hit. and that was the end of the store. unbelievable that a store where beta dual lands were as common as basic lands in madness’s land box and where everyone including myself had several sets of moxes and lotuses (because they were just that common) is now outta business. because if you sink all your eggs into just magic something like homelands, fallen empires, or even coldsnap can wipe you out.

but it was still over 1/2 hour out of the way…
I only switched to the Plano store because McKinney was gone… I preferred the McKinney playgroup, as they were more accepting at first
When we were all switched to Plano, I had no choice or I had to quit Magic then…

But for now, this is the direction we are going as a store.
Thanks,
Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. Even though we think we are sometimes, we’re not the only people who come to your store. If Magic makes a dime, and Comics make a quarter, you gotta go with the quarter. You’re in this to make a living, and I know that any of us here, given the opportunity to increase our salary/improve our lifestyle by selling a different mix of products in our own store, we’d do the exact same thing. True, you could have given a little more notice, but them’s the breaks. Anyone who paid attention could see that this was kinda the way things were heading. But players get loyal to their store, so feelings are hurt, and tensions are high. It’s inevitable. We’ll live. Magic players can get very passionate when their hobby is threatened. For most of us (as I don’t know everyone’s individual situation), it doesn’t mean the game is over, it just means we have to go through a little change. Change is good. Change spawns growth. You want to grow in your Magic playing skills, try a little change. Type 2 is the most popular format in Magic right now, I’m sure in part because it changes so often. Whatever you do, I hope no one quits gaming over this. I do hope you try something different as a result, whether it be just a different store for FNM, or a different format in Magic, or a different game altogether.
Chris - I see this question asked beforehand, but I didn’t see an answer. Are you doing anything special as a final send-off FNM for Madness? Not saying you have to, but we’d love to have a cool last-hurrah type of event, maybe with a bounty or something? We’d appreciate anything you want to do, but I understand if you just want to go cold turkey quits. That would probably be the only way I could quit Magic too...lol.
Just my 2 cents. Later.

First, we’re not quiting Magic, just the events. And not forever, but for an indefinate time, yes. No bounty for this week, but I’m thinking of something. I just don’t want to announce it yet. Probably won’t announce it ahead of time. I’ve got something in mind, but nothing huge honestly.
Thanks for the words…
