I’m going to have to throw into the Alternative Art theory… the reprint idea has seemed quite ludacris to me from the start (as a “rarity” or whatever, anyway)...

Gnaw on this for a minute…

Champions of Kamigawa was featured and listed as a 306 card set… it has ONE alternative art card on it, and therefore has 307 cards (go ahead, count it...) but is listed on every website, distributor, even WotC says its a 306 card set!

This ties in to the 121/121/80/80 comment about 121 commons and 121 alternative arts… (of course then the 20 lands) making 422… therefore the SET is in REALITY 422 cards, but can be truthfully listed as 301 cards including 5 basic land types.

Just a thought, go ahead and research it You’ll find I am correct about CHK.

its not right. there are 422 unique cards

thus the purple rarity color

The purple was NEVER said to be a “rarity” color… just a different color for the symbol, nobody knows what it denotes… hence my thoughts on it denoting a card had a duplicate with ALTERNATE art…

Also, it was CONFIRMED on the Wizards web page the set is a 301 card set…

alternate art wouldnt be profitable. its not alternate art. its 121 DIFFERENT cards.

I just dont understand where people are getting the “121 different card” theory from NOTHING that has been said alludes to that.

At least I was able to back up my theory, as nobody else is able to.

Diffrent art does not add numbers.

The purple rarity will probably the reprint cards that could show up for rare/uncommon/common that will simply take the place of normal timespiarl cards.

That’s what I am saying… 422 CARDS, but 301 “in the set” because the name is still the same name…

the set is 301 cards.

an email was erroneously sent to distributers stating that the set was 422, the mistake was made when WotC adjusted the print runs of each rarity.  When commons were changed from 110 to 121, someone mistakenly just added 121 to the already established set size of 301.

This has already been stated on multiple websites and also recently in an email from WotC and major distributers.

Yet those of us that don’t have bags and bags of gold lying around to spend on MTG cards realize that a 422-card set would be HORRIBLE. Great for limited though…

And now that you mention it, I do hope they keep on printing cards that break the rules… I want my Vedalken Orrery back…

The purple symbols will be for reprints which they may or may not be counting in their 301 card number.  My guess is that every pack will have one purple reprint card or something like that.

I hope they don’t mess that up… you see, if they shove 1 “reprint” or purple card in every pack, then there will be few of them around(seeing as it’s pretty much a whole other set INSIDE a set; 36/122 in one booster box? yeah, that spells “hard-to-get"), making their value go up. But if they include them in the regular rarities AND just give them a purple uncommon/common/rare symbol(to show that they’re just reprints) I think that would be better… I mean, I have NO IDEA what all the speculation is on the purple rarity or whatever, but I just don’t see it being a very smart idea making purple a “new rarity,” etc…
