Formats Galore

Firstly, let me just say that Madness does do a great job running FNM.  You have a staff that (mostly) really enjoys the game and cares about correctly officiating and not awarding free throws in game 4 to determine the winner when no fouls are actually committed.

Secondly, I was skimming Wizards.com earlier and saw the results from Block Team Constructed.  And I said to myself, “Self, why do YOU not get to play Block Team Constructed?” What a great idea for a format!  Is there any chance of us trying out some different formats some time in the near future?  Perhaps nothing weird, but some of the more fun Wizards-sanctioned (admittedly not sanctioned for FNM) formats like 2HG limited, Team Constructed, or Emperor limited?  I know that a lot of us are very big fans of 2HG, and I’m just curious if there’s any opportunity to look into some of these formats to change things up a little.  Particularly at the next Sealed night a team format would be a lot more fun.  I’m just throwing this out there.  If we can’t we can’t, but it sure could be fun.

I totally agree, however, the problem I see is that, without announcing it at least a month in advanced (for limited) or 2 weeks in advance (for constructed), the lone-stragglers would be paired up with people they don’t know too well… it would be better to announce way ahead of time… other than that, I DO AGREE! :)

Just my two cents.

I like big creatures and I cannot lie
You other players can’t deny
That when a beast walks in with an itty bitty cost
And your blockers are all lost
You get removal!

Yeah, it’s not supported, but maybe on a Saturday…

Different formats certainly get my vote.  I might even be able to do something next Saturday (and the one after) as well.

I played a 2hg sealed with a guy I’d never met before, there were only four teams and we swept the tournament, but I found out afterwards that he was a painter, and he was a pretty cool guy. point is: meeting new people is one of the great things about this game, I think multiplayer limited events would only strengthen the madness community.

that being said, I don’t think the turnout would be very good at the beginning.

Coldsnap Sealed: who cares
Coldsnap Draft: who cares

Hmm… I tend to meet people from across the table. Not on my side of it.
But, I do see your point there too.

I just think that if more people knew ahead of time, we may have a sudden surge of players come in “hey man, u wanna come play magix with me! i no u quitz0rz but itll be diff this time bro, there are 2hg teamz! itll be teh rox0rz!”

I can see it now…

I think it would be pretty fun to get some of the players who are less experienced Limited the chance to pair up with someone better.  They can get direct input on plays, deckbuilding, and card evaulation.  Stepping outside our boxes is a great way to enhance the community.

Well, it would make a lil more sense… but only if ALL teams were random.
So that some people don’t get to work with their “hardcore” buddy, and some people don’t know, or don’t realize it’s team formats and get stuck with a new person (whether or not they’re good).
That could prove to be fun…

Hmm maybe I could drag my wife along for 2HG limited :) I really like alternate constructed formats though (brainstorming and deckbuilding is my jhonny thing). If not what would hold us back from doing these on Saturday? did interest just not pan out the last few times for the Saturday league? Maybe we could have a signup/commitment for the league beforehand and it wouldn’t start until we had X people. Just throwing out ideas.

I hope it’s true that every snowflake is unique, because I never want to see one like this again.
