Wal-Mart ML Wave HITS!

Man, I scoured both my local Wal-Marts this morning and nada. I keep feeling they’re going to come at any moment and I have this fear that they’ll be here and gone if I don’t check (checked every day since Friday).

That stinks about the quality- I heard the same thing before, but only about Kitty Pryde. I’m getting Cap/Strucker, Thor and Capt. Britain today in the mail- are the Face Off figs good quality, Black Bolt?

The Face Offs were pretty bad too. My only hope is that collectors will not buy them off Ebay or any other websites, because the quality of the first wave is surprisingly bad. When i arrived at my WalMart yesterday, i had to pick through 4 sets of Cap vs Red Skull’s before i found one that looked good enough to buy. One Face Off had Captain America’s right thigh turned around. That’s a factory screw up! That was not done in transit like a smashed moc for example.  This is something ToyBiz is known for doing in the fifth or sixth line of Legends. For example, the first few shipments are good quality while the next to last shipments are the worst quality. This first wave, at least here in California, are not the high quality we are used to seeing in first shipments. This almost reminds me when Marvel Legends 8 first came out. Remember how TINY/SMALL the heads looked? Compared to the previous Legends they were nothing like ML 1 through 7. The Ice Man figure was a piece of crap. Ok let me stop. I can go on for days about ML 8...lol. That’s it JoMiHa my buddy. Good luck man. I hope Captain Britain, Thor, and Strucker are in good shape. Let us know when they arrive.

In the DFW area Roanoke WM they had four cases of the new legends.  I grabbed one case but didn’t see any two packs or box sets.  There were plenty of variants!

I scored the variant two packs today.  Check em out.

Say Curvezilla, i hear that Hulk is one big dude. About 8 inches. Do you think he might be TOO big?

Oh, i almost forgot. Many congrats on your big score. Three variants in one visit. WOW!

Great haul, Curve! I was lucky enough to trade for Strucker/Cap, Capt Brit and Thor about a month ago and have the rest coming to me in trade. Finally saw the remains of the display yesterday at my Wal-Mart and got Havok, Ant-Man, Sentry, Kitty Pryde, Young Avengers boxset and the DD/Kingpin two pack. All pretty good, although I’ve had a few problems.

Kitty Pryde’s hip peg is jutting out, DD’s legs are extremely loose (and I hate the shoulders), and Thor’s cape bugs me, but otherwise, it’s all good.

That’s right JoMiHa i figured as much in regards to your Kitty P and Thor. Most of the Walmart Wave figures here in California area had loose jointed figures with some badly painted ones to boot. I think the is a problem across the country with the Walmart Wave. It’s really a crappy job by ToyBiz and someone should call them out on this. It seems most collecters are just happy to be getting them. Well, that’s not good enough for me. I expect quality. And i don’t see it with this Wave. To me, it seems like ToyBiz didn’t really care since this is their last year of production. They only focused on the quantity and not the quality. I’ll do a column on this later. Contrats again JoMiHa.

Well, for the most part, I have been pleasantly surprised. With the exception of Iron Lad, I really love the YA boxset figures much more than I thought I would, particularly Asgardian and Hulkling.

Kingpin, the Hulk, Cap and Strucker are all great. Leader and DD, not so much.

The figures I was most pleasantly surprised with were Captain Britain, Sentry (even though I wish they’d break the BP mold) and Ant-Man (awesome figure). And even for those that dislike the quality of this wave, you can’t argue that Giant Man is amazing. I think this is also why a lot more people aren’t complaining. And to be honest, the “trap” worked brilliantly. You know I bought every single figure simply to build the Giant Man. And in my opinion, he’s well worth it. Then again, the ML Icons are going to be nearly the same quality for a pricepoint of $14-16.00, so I don’t know.

I still haven’t seen the YA Box set yet.  The thing with the variant two packs is that they only had variants.  Aside from the regular Hulk/Leader they were all variants.  Go figure huh.  Anyone see any ML13 anywhere or know when they are supposed to hit?

Hey Curve, ML 13 is only in Canada right now, but people here in the States are getting them quickly through mailorder. A lot of people are getting them from Legends’ site. I was contemplating ordering a set. We should work something out and all go in on a case or something…

And I’m PMing you about the YA boxset.

I found the box sets but only picked up New Avengers.  The Monsters box set was very bland.  I aslo saw the Masterworks stuff but didn’t buy either of them.  I am waiting for the next wave with Galatus vs. Everyone!

I would kill for the New Avengers. I think you meant Young Avegers Curvezilla. I still think they don’t deserve a box set. Since they have only been around for 10 months> :smirk:

After ML 14 and 15 hit, the only New Avenger we’ll be missing is Echo/Ronin, so a boxset would be kind of redunant, especially given that the Face Off Cap, Spider-Woman, Luke Cage, Sentry, Warbird etc are all new releases, so they wouldn’t warrant redecos at this point. This is a good year for ML collectors. I’m expecting ML 13 to arrive in the mail soon. I’ll post pics when I get ‘em.
