I thought I’d start out with a few of my latest pieces, so the following customs are from Rombado’s year two collection 8)

Between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities...there was an age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars...Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand...to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his feet…

Marvel Legends, Custom Conan the Barbarian action figure, with loads of accessories. Now, this action figure will never be made by, Toybiz, Marvel Legends line, simply because they no longer hold the rights to the character, Dark Horse does, and Mcfarlane’s Conan offers no articulation.  So, I decided to make one that offered the best of both worlds. I created Conan using a Marvel Legends, series 3 Thor figure. I sculpted the chest, abs, hair, and necklace. His trunks, cloak, and boots are made from real fur, and CONAN has 32 points of articulation and is completely posable and playable. He is hand painted with 4 different flesh tones to truely show his skin, muscles, veins, and scars and then sealed for protection.

Conan was nominated for Custom of the Year, 2005 for Best Accessories.

Mumm-Ra, is a commissioned piece, for a private buyer, and he I wanted me to show Mumm-Ra’s true warrior nature. That’s why I decided not to include the mummy wraps with this piece.

Thundercats/Marvel Legends, Custom, Mumm-Ra, I created Mumm-Ra using a Sota, Street Fighter series 1, Sagat figure. Mumm-Ra has 26 points of articulation and is completely posable and playable. He is hand painted and sealed for protection, and I used 14 different paint colors to achive his full effect. All parts are hand sculpted and they are, Apoxie clay for his skirt, and chest symbol, Apoxie sculpt for his helmet, and Super Sculpey 3 for his armbands, and lower legs, armor and fur. His helmet was designed using a Thor and LOTR helmet, I cut of the top of the LOTR helmet, and used Thor’s helmet as the top. Then I resculpted the entire helmet with Apoxie sculpt.

Darkseid, is a commissioned piece, for a private buyer.

Marvel Legends, Custom, Darkseid, I created Darkseid using a ML War Hulk figure.  Darkseid has 28 points of articulation and is completely posable and playable. He is hand painted and sealed for protection, and I used 7 different paint colors to achive his full effect. His head, outfit, gloves and boots are hand sculpted.

First class work Rom!  How much do you charge for a custom?  Keep up the great work and keep posting those pics.

Hey Buddy, I made it over. Awesome stuff, but you already knew that. ;)

Thanks y’all for your comments.

Chris, Thanks buddy, the pricing for a commissioned piece varies greatly, due to the amount of time and sculpting involved.

Joel, Thanks bro, I’m so hyped you made it over. I can’t wait to see more of your Amazing work.

Next up, I just finished a commissioned piece of Polaris. So, I wanted to show her to y’all and hear what ya think about her.

I’m not real familiar with this version of her. I think she was in X-Factor at the time. And I think Marvel was trying to make her into another Rogue, but we all know there’s just one of her Polaris had super strength, body armor, and growth, according to the old “Gamer’s Handbook of the Marvel Universe”, which I use to play A LOT I only had one pic for reference so let me know if she turned out alright.

I used a ML Storm head and torso, with a LOTR 1st Eowyn’s arms and legs. I wanted to show her strength so I resculpted her upper arms and upper legs. I also sculpted the collar, shoulder pads, belt, gloves, boots, and boobies. Each color as painted, washed, and dry brushed.

Polaris looks great bro!  She really has some big un’s!

Thanks buddy, You know those were the best part of making her :cheese:

All right y’all. Here’s my next commission piece from the same buyer as Polaris.

Siryn is a straight up repaint of a series 6 Phoenix. I didn’t sculpt the breasts on this one Sorry guys but this is from her teenage days. But I think the paint job really accentuates them. The belt is sculpted. The collar is from Widow and the wing thingies are from a Gen-X Banshee. I used 8 different paints to complete her. The green is Jubilee green base, charcoal wash, and metallic crystal green. And the yellow is a pineapple base, charcoal wash, and metallic Inca gold dry brush. The hair is a pumpkin base with a lipstick red wash and same on the eyebrows. And the mascara was redone in apricot.

Thanks for looking y’all and please feel free to leave any comments because I’d love to hear them.

Rom,

Do you use an airbrush for your paints?  What about taping off?  You have great clean lines.

Thanks Chris, no airbrush. I prefer to hand paint each figure , I just love the challenge, it’s my favorite of customizing. While you build the figure up, may it be sculpting, kitbashing, or both, you never truly see the character until you paint it. The paint is what brings the figure to life. I use several techniques to achieve this effect, washing, drybrushing, and detailing. All of the lines are done freehand. I guess when other kids were out running around, I was usually inside painting or playing with clay and my attention to detail grew with time. Thanks again for your comments. I always appreciate it.

No airbrush and no tape!  You really are talented!

Thanks Chris, for your wonderful comments, I really appreciate them.

Hey y’all, I just finished my latest commissions and wanted to hear what you guys think about it.

This is Luna of the Lunatacs from the Thundercats. Best thing about commissions for me is that I get to make characters I wouldn’t normally think of doing. Take Luna for example, the shrill and diminutive leader of the Lunatacs. I’m a huge fan of the Thundercats but I barely remember this character. The buyer allowed me artistic preference with the head and hair because I didn’t want to do another 80’s look, but I had to keep the costume similar to the original design. So I went with a more modern hair style and brought more of the monstrous features out in her face. This is my first full facial sculpt. I made the eyes smaller and more sinister than bulbous and cartooney to show more of the villain in her.  I sculpted the head, hair, and body suit. I used both, washes and drybrushing to bring out her features, and I used the wire inside of a twist-tie for the earrings. The buyer loves her, and said she was everything and more then what he expected :D

The base figure is aSPAT from the old Toybiz line, I think she’s someone Gambit knew.

The first thing I did was sculpt the face and torso.

Then I applied the first base coat and wash for the head, skin, and outfit.

The rest is just drybrushing and accessories.

Let me know what y’all think because I’d love to hear from ya. Now, remember she’s suppose to look like a little monster lady. To me, she looks like a, Evil 80’s Aerobic Instructor

Thanks and enjoy,
Rom

Hey y’all, I just finished the second member of the Lunatacs from my Thundercats commissioned order.
Tug Mug, is a cyborg with piston like legs and super strength, he is the most powerful of the group. It’s ok if you don’t know him, b/c I can’t remember him either and I made him. He did break the Sword of Omens once, does that ring any bells for anyone..

Tug Mug is my most challenging custom I have ever made to date. I had to basically sculpt the entire figure from scratch. I started with a Bam Bam Bigalow, and took off the knees. Thanks DDD, for the tips they really helped.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The first 2 layers I had to start building him up, b/c Tug Mug is a huge guy.

Then I sculpted his armor, legs, arms, and head.

The rest is just paint and good old elbow grease. The tunic is from an old hemp cover (Inspired by Globes wonderful use of fabric  ) and the gun is from Ultron from the Avenger’s line.

Next up is Classic Taskmaster, the way he should have been made by ML. The Tasky they made was just too small for my taste, he should have been as big as Cap, and not Bullseye IMO. So, I went with a Cyclops body and sculpted the legs, b/c Cyke has got the serious “chicken legs”. Most of the accessories are from TM, along with the head and cloak. The bow and sword is from a LOTR figure, but I forget who.

The following WIP’s are of the sculpt work on the legs and collar. The straps around the chest, crotch, and holster, are fishing line.

Base coats of the white and orange, followed by a wash.

Matching the different orange colors was a challenge. For the accessories I used a Apricot with a light brown wash. I cut the hood off the cloak and attacked it by sculpting the collar.

You are dead on with that Taskmaster.  I wrote a review on him months ago and I listed some of the changes you made.  The boots on Taskmaster and Cyke should have been switched.  Looks great bro!

Thanks Chris, I really appreciate your kind words on good old Tasky. I sold this one, but I miss him so much, that I’m already planning on making me another. Heck, that’s the best thing about being a customizer, I can always make another one, as long as I have the time and supplies that is.

Thanks again,
Rom

Hey y’all, it’s been about 2 weeks since I’ve posted a new custom. That’s b/c I’ve been working hard to complete my half of the Defender’s Project, A.G. and I have been working on. We both picked out a few of our favorite characters from the Defenders, and gave ‘em the custom treatment. So, without further ado I present to you Chromed Surfer (w/ new head sculpt), Daimon Hellstorm, and Moon Dragon. I hope y’all enjoy ‘em.

Surfer was the first Defender I completed.

A.G. wanted me to make one of my Chromed Surfers, but asked if I could give him a new head sculpt. The sculpt turned out too big, so I had to file it down to look more natural. I wanted him to still appear alien, but with humanistic features.

Marvel Legends, Custom, Chromed Silver Surfer, version 1. I never liked that the regular Marvel Legends Surfer wasn’t shiny enough. So, I decided to chrome him out, and his eyes and power effect are painted with glow in the dark paint. He has over 30 points of articulation, and comes with magnetic surf board.
