The end-all-be-all officially sanctioned Star Wars celebration lives on despite no new movies being released.

Celebration I,II, and III all happened right before Episodes I, II, and III were released. Lucas Films used the venue to hype their new movies extensively. Seems that they want to continue the fervor despite no new movies.

The tickets for this HUGE celebration of everything Star Wars go on sale October 30, 2006. Star Wars Celebration IV runs from May 25-28,2007. That's four full days and nights of action packed, all you can handle, Star Wars overload.

For anybody that hasn't been to an "official" Star Wars celebration, it is a sight to behold. I personally went to Celebration II in Indianapolis and it was a blast from beginning to end.

They pack the days full of celebrity speaker meetings that range from the actual actors, set creators, costumers, droid creators, and even game developers. That's just the official stuff. There is also usually plenty of seminars given by other groups that include costume making, fan movie creation, droid building, miniature creation, etc. The acting troupe that does "Star Wars in 30 minutes" was also there giving special showings throughout the day.

They also have a tradecraft hall where you can go and sit down with the different people and they will show you how to create droids / costumes / games without a time schedule of a meeting to push you out.

Those doesn't even include the main convention floor that showcases just about every piece of Star Wars merchandise out there. At celebration II, Lego showed up with these huge diorama of the jedi arena scene and Endor made entirely of lego's and lego characters. We are talking probably 10' x 10' of nothing but legos for each different diorama with thousands of lego figures involved. Not to mention a 3 story tall lego Yoda that they built on-site with everybody's help. Then there was Hasbro with a human sized bubble pack that you could take a picture in that made you look like you were an action figure. Think of it as the E3 convention floor for Star Wars.

To cap the whole experience off, the Indianapolis Pops orchestra gave a special concert dedicated solely to John Williams and his music. Absolutely gorgeous.

If you have the money or capability to get out to this convention, it is a definite not miss. I have photos and videos of Celebration II that I will post later so that you can see what you are in for.
