COMIC CON FIRST IMPRESSION: Ghost Rider The Game

by: The Ryan

Does the cool hero have a cool game?

Ghost Rider for the PS2 is exactly what you’d expect from a game based on a movie. It’s nothing outstanding, just ok.

In the demo I played at Comic-Con, it reminded me a lot of God of War in some ways. Kratos had the Blades of Fury that were attached with chains, and Ghost Rider has two long chains attached to his arms to swing at his enemies. The first level that I played was a basic walk through level. Walk to one place, fight enemies, repeat. Nothing made me feel like I HAD to play this game, and that’s exactly what I look for with the games I pick up.

Ghost Rider also had a second level to try out. This one wasn’t on foot, it was on his chopper (yes, as in motorcycle.) To me it seemed like a way to break up the action in the game. Enemies were still attacking you while you were ridin’ down the torn apart highway, but it was hard enough clearing all the gaps in the road nonetheless attacking the enemies while I was doing that (which never felt quite right in the first place.) To put the game into perspective for all you gamers out there, it’s like broken God of War fighting mechanics along with Tomb Raider: Legends gameplay.

The graphics on the other hand were pretty cool. The action was fast paced with no slow down that I noticed. The enemies look really well constructed, and Ghost Rider himself looks great!

I still have really high hopes for the Ghost Rider movie, but as for the game, I hate to say but I think I’ll skip it.
