Toughman Competition Gets Tweaked

by: DarthMolen

Toughman competitions are usually very rough affairs and they are about to get a lot rougher.

Nanaimo’s annual So You Wanna Fight (Cuz Ya Think Yer Tuff) toughman competition has added an “MMA” stand-up only category to their fight cards. Fist, Feet, and knees are going to be allowed but no ground-game. If they thought that Fists were leaving vegetables, wait until the knees start landing.

A good punch is around 1800 lb/psi. A good knee comes in around 2800 lb/psi. Add that with amateurs throwing and also being the recipients, and you have a recipe for vegetable stew.

The promoter is also using standard marketing and pulling in the “MMA” keyword when they only really mean kickboxing. MMA is defined with ground game included in the package and obviously they aren’t including that.

Look for a serious blood bath. Knees and kicks will up the power ante and it might be spectacular, but will probably border on barbarism because there is no discipline involved and the inability to block those power attacks will definitely break things down to a bloody mess.
