An introduction to KomiKazees west coast film contributor.
Bamf here rematerializing from the void..
Greetings fair readers, my chosen name is these vast terabytes of information is Bamf and I am your n00b contributor to the good ship KomiKazee. My main focus is Film and all things involved in it and I am humbly thankful for the opportunity to be apart of the site. So this will be my introduction to you on who I am, how I find my self here, and where we all may go together. That Internet friendly F.A.Q. form seems most appropriate, so here we go.
Fair question, and it all starts with a long set of stairs. I was hiking in the Himalayas trying to find a mystical plant that could make my Xbox a HD and Blu-ray player all in one package. I came upon stairs that reached far into the clouds and I began my exotic steps with the promise of finally answering the question, in the format war, what makes porn look better? I reached the top finding a cylindrical gothic looking structure with ginormous doors at its threshold. I took latch in hand, and pulled the heavy iron doors open. To my awe I found a media seduced group of monks whom were busily cataloguing new games, testing faster Torrent engines, and staring at flat panels watching Mario from Mario 64 standing there doing nothing. They later told me if you looked long enough into the plumbers’ eyes, you could see god himself, and I replied “Miyamoto?” Any ways I made my way to the back past power strips and hot spots when I came upon a one legged, blind, bald disciple pumping his fist in the air in triumph. Next to him, a handsome man on his knees with face buried in his palms and the faint whimper of tears hung in the air. I tapped him on the shoulder and he shot up to his feet ready to pounce, I put my hands in the air to show no threat, he relaxed, wiped the tears from his cheek, and asked me my name. “Bamf,” I said.
Then he spoke.
“Here, they call me TheRyan. I have been here seven months learning the secrets of the digital universe. I’ve learned all I can, but they will not let me leave until I complete my final task.”
I say, “What is this? Devry? TheRyan, what task can a man with all of your knowledge find impossible to complete?”
“Well, I have to defeat this blind, one legged jerk in one round of Dance Dance Revolution. It’s a feat I have found not as easy at it sounds.”
At this point the monk was back on the pad and I was taken in by his seemingly off worldly moves that seems improbable to understand. He was fast, fluid, and daring in his choices. The Excellents, and combos kept coming and the score never stopped rising.
“Well TheRyan, might I suggest a solution to said problem. Why not just relieve him of his other leg?”
TheRyans face became illuminated with this idea he had never considered before. He ran to retrieve a Steel Battalion controller, returned and crept silently up behind the unsuspecting monk. The viciousness of the beating that ensued cannot be described here, but needless to say DDR will only be played with that monks hands from that moment forward. We left the temple together, TheRyan fresh with life and optimism. He told me of this site he contributed too and through are conversations he learned of my intense love of movies.
“I have no gold to offer, but how about you start writing reviews for the site?” TheRyan said.
“Sir, it would be an honor.”
And that’s how it went; well that, or we just worked together.
Wow, are you always going to be that long winded? So you like moving pictures, big deal. What credibility do you have in this net world full of people with un-censored opinions?
I do enjoy the creative writing experience, so sorry if you found it far to alliterative. I write reviews about films as I see them. I enjoy contemplating the experience of the movie just as much as the technical aspects of cinematography and editing. So in my reviews you will find comments about audience reactions, how I came to find the film or even what my day was like before I screened it. So much of the film going experience is how you viewed it, not entirely dependent on what you viewed. This may sound less then entertaining, but trust me, it works. Most guys watch Sportscenter, I listen to DVD commentaries. Film is my passion, and the theater is my church. So please, shut off your cell, leave the toddler at home and get ready for the sermon.
Where are from, where are you going?
I live in Huntington Beach California. I moved here in August after deciding I had my fill of living in a very cold, dark, boring place. I grew up in Fairbanks Alaska and have lived there most of my life save going to college in Montana and spending my summers in L.A. with family. Presently I’m a Banker by trade with aspirations of getting into the film business. I’m learning how to write scripts and will be finishing up a degree here very soon. Until that moment comes when I’m directing my first feature, I’m seeing and doing everything I can to enrich my abilities. And writing about films is a natural extension of that.
What other hobbies or interests do you have?
I started reading comics about a year ago and wish I had started sooner. I only had casual interest up to that point as years of continuity had me scared. But writers like Moore and Bendis have kicked open a door in my mind. The stories that are being told currently are a testament to a genre that has grown up. I can only hope that the days of hologram cover are long sense past. All things Kevin Smith could be called an obsession of mine, though I never saw Jersey Girl, weird. And I read prodigiously, making my way through the classics that I ignored through High School. It’s all about balance; a trade paper back of the excellent Runaways here, a sonnet by Shakespeare there.
So what can we expect from Bamf?
Mostly film reviews, but from time to time you will see me posting deeper analysis on movies from a skewed perspective. I like using dirty words, like F*** or S*** or waffle, but will clean it up here as “F”, “S”. Ill most likely reference Buffy or Kubrick at some point and I may even get a little leet (7337) on you. But really I write to entertain my self, and thus far that has proven to be a great formula. I think you will find the same.
Closing thoughts?
I have to thank the staff here at KomiKazee for bringing me into the fold. As a fan of film, I want to bring even more quality to the table that is already full of excellent reviews and opinions all ready. I’m happy to be another voice with that unique perspective. Over the next few days Ill be posting some past blogs I’ve written about movies to get you acclimated to my style and what I have to offer. So be on the lookout for those. One more thought. I detest giving films a numerical rating. So instead when I review a film you will either see 1 star or 5. I feel by the end of a review if you don’t know how I feel about a film then I didn’t do a good enough job writing about it. Ill play with that and see how it works. I do have a rating system for chick flix though, so be prepared for that.
Feedback is always welcome so feel free to drop me a line at
I’m also on this little social experiment called myspace, perhaps you have heard mention of it. You can find me there at the myspace where a lot of my past reviews can be found as well as commentary on my life, like working at a video rental store and why video taping your bedroom escapades might not be such a bad idea. So stop by and be a friend. Now it begins, and ill borrow a line from Futurama and pervert it to my own needs. When clicking on my posts just remember,
You read it, but you cannot un-read it…
Fair warning.
