"Empire” by Dark Horse has been running awhile now and is quite popular with the natives. I am jumping into the series, and a side story to boot, mid-stream. #38 did not endear me to the series at all. Read on for all my nitpicks.
"The Wrong Side of the War” is a view into the head of one of Luke Skywalker’s old friends as he goes through the Imperial military. It also features a rebel operation spearheaded by Luke Skywalker. It spans 5 issues.
Empire #38 is 3 of 5 in the mini-series within the full series and I would consider it nothing but filler. There is little to no action in this issue and various niggler’s that really put me off.
First, Luke Skywalker is wearing a hat and is in the Imperial officer garb. That really threw me off because Luke didn’t wear hats in the movie (he wore helmets or nothing at all). Also, he still had his long hair which is ridiculous in military uniforms and doesn’t aid his “undercover” claims.
Secondly, boobies and big lips. Do all uniforms in comic books have to be tight enough to make the women look like they are going to pop all their buttons? Also, every woman has to have lips like Goldie Hahn. I much prefer a more natural drawing method where women’s anatomical parts aren’t blown out of proportion.
The last thing that doomed this issue is the total lack of anything that happened that made me want to invest myself in the story. You could probably totally skip this issue and just read issue #39.
